The state Division of Motor Vehicles does not register or title the mini trucks as motor vehicles, said DMV Deputy Commissioner Steve Dale. The vehicles are solely for farm use and are not permitted on two-lane roadways or Interstate highways. "There is some interest in allowing some limited use of those vehicles on the road," Dale said. "I would anticipate that there would be legislation [introduced] during the 2009 session." A joint judiciary subcommittee of the Legislature studied the issue last year, and the same discussion is going on in other states, he said. Last year, about 10 states allowed limited use of mini trucks on some roadways. No states allow the vehicles on Interstates. Basically, the mini trucks are allowed in the same places all-terrain vehicles are allowed. "They're not imported into this country as motor vehicles," Dale said. "They're actually imported as off-road farm equipment."
