No Police Protection in Clendenin
May 3rd, 2008, 8:33am

I was reading the last issue of The Country Times and am a little confused.  Below is the paragraph I am talking about:

"Residents in the upper-end of Clendenin, above the Clendenin Elem.
School has reported attempted break-ins. One resident reported seeing two
males on youth bikes trying to break-in to their garage at 3:30 in the
morning. She called 911 and the deputies arrived an hour later, thankfully
the prowlers’ left shortly after she made the phone call and no harm was
done."

Isn’t the upper end of Clendenin within the city limits?  Do we not have a police department to protect our homes, our belongings, and most importantly…US?  Why would the Sheriff’s department have to come instead of Clendenin Police Department.

It VERY VEY concerning to think that it would take over an hour to get help.  What if those “prowlers” were breaking into someone’s home?  Am I the only one concerned about the lack of police protection?

The reason there's never any cops in town at night is that they're not even in clendenin aftr like 8 oclock. I live close to whre all this is happening and can tell you I won't wait 2 hours for the cops to get to my house..

I live in the lower in of town (on the 119 side) and never see a town police car after dark, I called in a loud music call and was told to call 911 and let Kanawha County handle it, I hate to tie up the 911 system over an idiot with a loud radio, someone could have a real emergency.
Maybe they should paint Koontz Ave. Police on the side of thier car and quit taking our money because I don't feel like I am part of the town. Besides wasn't there just a big stink over a dollar an hour more pay for night shift!

Sorry if I ruffle a few feathers, I have never had anything but respect for our police officers, If you read my post on the police dept. you can see I support them all the way. I guess I'm just upset that at least 3 to 4 times a week I can't hear myself think over the loud music, we can't set out on the pourch and talk anymore, I have to turn the TV up in my own house to hear it and I live several houses away! The people that live closer are afraid of him because he stays drunk most of the time and is always looking for a fight. We would love to have more patrols in the Kelly Addition area in the evenings to put a stop to this idiot. Like I said I called city hall and was told to call 911. I don't want trouble between the nieghbors so I am not going to tell his name but he drives a green S-10 witch by the way is the source of the loud music, he turns it up and goes inside to listen to it most of the time. Guess he don't have a radio inside.

You do have a good point.  There was a huge issue about the night shift differential in a council meeting a few weeks ago.  Why were the officers fighting to get the pay bump when they hardly work overnight?  It is sad when residents have to endure “law breakers” because it would take hours before the Kanawha County Sheriff’s department would find time to respond to a call within the city limits of Clendenin.

Does anyone know why we don’t have police coverage at night?  Do we not have money in the budget or just don’t have enough police officers?  Or is it that they would rather work day shift because not as much happens?  Anyone have some inside knowledge on this one?

Personally I would rather forgo a day shift and have the local cops working nights and evenings instead if the budget does not afford 24 hour around the clock protection.

The best protection is Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Glock, and so forth and so on. They are my favorite.  Cool

Sad  There used to be 3 full-time police officers, which put an officer on duty at nights, who DID patrol the area and respond to emergency calls. Unfortunately, there was so much BULLCRAP and politics going on, that one officer left his job.
It's a shame that things like this happen and ultimately the town suffers from lack of protection.  In MY PERSONAL opinion, Clendenin will NEVER do any better until Mayor Ore is out of the mayor's office and the town has a different police force ENFORCING, ( I reiterate - ENFORCING) the laws and statutes of  the town.
Too many people sit back, watching, and just let things happen instead of doing something and making their voices heard.  People, THINK, then ACT, and make a difference in your town!  Take a stand for what is right!
I actually am glad that I am not in Clendenin every day to watch the ongoing saga of the demise or the destruction of a town that will one day (not too far off) cease to be.
My heart is full of sadness and pity for townspeople that won't think and speak for themselves.

you wonder why they dont respond well its because they dont have radio signal which is also dangerous for them because if they need help guess what no one can hear them   so if they get shot what are they suppose to do fire 3 shots in the air and hope someone hears them ...so instead of down grading them find out the facts before you pass blame

Can they pick up radio signals in Roane County?  Wink Wink Grin  Whatever shift they work, does not seem to help much since there has been a bank robbery during broad daylight.  The 25045 building broken into two or three times. Has this case been solved?  If it is, I'm sure the Deputies or State Police would have to solve this.  I hear the Sheriff Department Smiley had to work the bank robbery.  Where was the Clendenin officers Roll Eyes?  Clendenin needs the Kanawha County Deputies Smiley. I agree with wvredbird.
